Right from the beginning we warned you this camping blog is not for extremist rugged, survival-trained Eagle Scouts. Our slogan, "21st Century Family Camping Today, (ipods allowed)" says it all.

Well, what do you know, Eureka now has a camping tent with built-in power outlets for you to charge your ipods, iphones, and i-whathaveyous. Eureka tents have always been a leader in camping tents, but I hope they have not insulted their loyal camping customer base with this tent that's really your 21st century living room. Just watch the video below, and you will gasp in disbelief. When you get your jaw back together, you'll want one. Hold your horses, they are not cheap.

The one featured in the video costs $289 plus the power pack. It is 13 foot by 10 foot, very generous size, and lots of features you want in a camping tent, but might you achieve the same power capability by sticking with your tent, and purchasing a portable power pack, like the Duracell PowerPak ($99) separately instead?

If you are smitten with the Eureka N!ergy Tent in the video, don't get it on the Eureka website ($289), Amazonhas it on sale for $230 and free shipping. Add another $60 for the Eureka N!ergy power pack.

What do you think? Drop us a comment and tell us if being able to use a hairdryer (what's next, a vacuum cleaner) in a camping tent is really camping?

two-person-dome-tent-floor-planOnly us campers come up with brilliant ideas like this, but a two person dome tent makes a most romantic wedding gift. Just look at the floor plan of a typical two-person tent. Is that romantic or what?

Along with the camping tent you also gift to the couple a lifetime of relishing the outdoors. Surely you've heard that couples that camp together stay together? Ok, let's be specific, he will love the tent for the outdoor fun it represents, she will love it for the intimacy of sleeping in a private two-person dome under a starlit sky.

When buying a tent for two, the criteria is similar to the criteria for buying a large tent. However, pay more attention to things that affect the sense of roominess. You want a cozy tent, not a

What makes a good family tent?

Today's tents are not shapeless beige flapping canvas you drape over poles. , for example, have a line of tents that are colorful, a snap to set up and a beauty to behold. The video above lists 5 factors to look for before you buy a tent:

Factor #1. It is roomy and comfortable

Reason #10. You have tried everything else to peel the kids (or the hubby?) away from the TV and Xbox. One thing I learn as a parent, when I yell, "Turn that TV off!" I need to provide an alternative. Kids can't substitute TV for vacuum. Gotta give them something to occupy their active minds like Surviving in the Wilderness.

Reason #9. You can't remember the last time you gazed at the stars. It's time to see the Big Dipper beyond the printed page.

Reason # 8. The only bird chirping you have ever woken up to is the cuckoo clock in the living room.

Reason # 7. Ten years from now, when your kids lament to their therapists that you were absent in their lives, you can show videos and pictures of your experience.

Reason # 6. Food tastes better outdoors. I'll tell you about the Baby Weber Grill at another time.

Reason # 5. Its affordable. You can buy very nice camping gear with the equivalent of a couple nights hotel stay. And you get to keep the gear. (Its like owning your own home instead of renting).

Reason # 4. Enjoy the inheritance that was saved for you. In 1916, your grandparents and mine made a commitment to preserve, protect and share the natural beauty of this land through the National Park Service. When was the last time your eyes feasted on the natural beauty of our [tag/]national parks[/tag]?

Reason # 3. Camping is so easy today. Down-filled sleeping bags, 10-minute-set-up tents, instant fire starters, and yes, that Baby Weber Grill. Today's camping equipment is easy enough for the beginner campers.

Reason # 2. There are many ways to camp, so you can choose what suits you best. There's rustic cabin camping, car camping, such as at the Adirondacks, RV camping and backpacking. Start with something you are comfortable with. Chances are, you'll explore other more adventurous camping with time.

Reason # 1. You have never gone camping before. Well, then you absolutely have to go camping this year. Do it before you are set in your ways. Do it before you take yourselves too seriously. Do it before the kids leave the nest. Do it before you can't do it. In other words, just do it.
