Coleman Rechargeable Lantern

One of our camping tradition is to play Monopoly in our tent on one of the camping evenings. We need a good strong camp lantern like a family-size Coleman lantern to make sure I don’t get cheated out of my proper rent for Park Place or Trafalgar Square.

We also own two smaller GE battery-operated camping lanterns that we purchased from Costco. Those are great for the kids to tote at night to the bathroom or to the Park Ranger's evening talks.

For brightness though, nothing floods the tent like the Coleman Rechargeable Lantern . The lantern comes with four settings; → Night Light, → OFF, → High, → Low. We love the built-in night light. It gives just the right amount of light. Not too bright for me who needs darkness to sleep but just enough light to provide some comfort and security for young kids.

The rechargeable battery takes a couple of hours to get a full charge. First remove the battery pack by unscrewing the bottom panel of the lantern, then plug the battery into the wall with the 12V adapter cord. A charge will last you through the night easily, especially if you switch to the night light.

I like that this Coleman lantern is very bright, I like that I don't need to keep buying "D" batteries, I like that I don't have to deal with a propane lantern's gas bottles - both full and empty - but the most comforting thought for me is that this Coleman fluorescent lantern won’t explode in the tent, scorch our down sleeping bag or release fumes and give us all emphysema.

The U-tube fluorescent tube also keeps the lantern running cool so I can concentrate on my game and not worry about the lantern touching and burning my kids as they get too absorbed rolling dice, praying and hoping they will bypass my Park Place and Broadwalk properties.

I have a Coleman model 5348-700 rechargable fluorescent lantern. The battery finally expired. Can I replace this battery? If so, what is the cost, and how to get to it.

e-mail the response. Thanks Bob
