Sleeping Pad - Defense of the Minimalist Foam Pad

In my post on How to Choose a Sleeping Pad , it was not too subtle that I prefer the plush, velvety aerobed air mattress for camping. The video below, however, makes a good case for the minimalist foam pad.

Notice though, the corrugated surface, that adds some cushioning. Not all foam pads are corrugated so if some minimal cushioning is important to you, make that a must-have. And make sure it is waterproof.

I have a much better appreciation for this ultra-thin foam pad after watching the video. I can see taking it for a day hike, or beach camping trip. But for sleeping overnight at camp, it'll be hard to give up that air mattress. I'm just trying to be respectful to my down-feather sleeping bag.

If you've tried one of these pads and like it, drop us a comment. If you broke your back sleeping on one, drop us a comment too.
