Grand Canyon Skywalk

The Grand Canyon glass-platformed skywalk officially opened March 28, 2007. It is the first-ever cantilever shaped glass walkway to suspend more than 4,000 feet above the canyon’s floor and extend 70 feet from the canyon’s rim.

Some interesting facts about the Skywalk:

- It is outside National Park Service jurisdiction. It belongs to the tribe of Hualapai.
- Only 120 people are allowed on the bridge at one time.
- You must leave your cameras and other personal items behind.
- But for $21, an official photographer will take a souvenier snapshot of you
- Visitors must slip on cloth booties before they stride (or stagger) past the cliff face.
- You must traverse a 14-mile dirt road approach to the Grand Canyon west. And if you complain, you'll be scolded by a Navajo greeter assuring you, "It will never be paved. We're close to the earth, and some of us get too close to that synthetic world".
- Humans overcome anxiety produced by adrenaline in 15 minutes. You'll have a good time starting minute 16.
- The bridge is anchored 46 feet into the limestone ledge
- You are 4,000 feet above the canyon bottom. You'll be higher than a soaring hawk.
